Shakhtar vs Konyaspor 4-0

Goals: 1-0 Abülkerim (og 10’) 2-0 Dentinho (36’) 3-0 Eduardo (66’) 4-0 Bernard (75’)

Shakhtar Donetsk pressured Konyaspor from the get go, and the Miners were awarded, as they opened the scoring early on when a high cross by Bernard deflected off Abdülkerim Bardakci passed goalkeeper Serkan to make it 1-0. Shakhtar remained on the front foot, and Andriy Boryachuk almost doubled the lead with a volley from 18 yards, and then shortly after Boryachuk combined well with Dentinho, but his shot could not find the target. Dentinho then received a great pass from Taison, and managed to curl the ball passed goalkeeper Serkan for a wonderful finish. Just before the halftime tea Bernard combined well with Taison, who managed to get the ball passed Serkan, but his shot was to weak, and a Konyaspor defender was able to clear the ball off the line.

Shakhtar kept up the pressure on Konyaspor’s backline yet it was Konyaspor with the first real attempt in the second interval when Amir Hadžiahmetović tested goalkeeper Mykyta Shevchenko from 25 yards out, and the young Ukrainian keeper almost made a meal of it when he fumbled the ball. But it was Shakhtar, who would wrap up the game, as Eduardo got on the end of a wonderful free kick by Darijo Srna to make it 3-0, and then Boryachuk picked out Bernard with a great pass, and the Brazilian would end up chipping the ball over a hapless Serkan, to make it 4-0 for Shakhtar.

Man of the Match

Not easy to pick a player of the match in this one, as Darijo Srna, Dentinho, Bernard, and Boryachuk in particular impressed. With an assist, and a goal, Bernard slightly edged out the competition, however, as the Brazilian finally seems to show why Shakhtar paid €25 million for him in the summer of 2013. Bernard furthermore, combined well with Dentinho, and Boryachuk on several occasions, as the three would frequently switch positions to confuse Konyaspor’s defence. In this form it will only be a matter of time until Brazilian national team coach Tite picks the Brazilian for the Seleção.

Shakhtar vs Konyaspor – Talking Point

As expected Shakhtar head coach Paulo Fonseca once again rotated his squad against Konyaspor with young star Boryachuk once again receiving playing time. After halftime Fonseca debuted midfielder Vyacheslav Tankovskyi, who came on for Viktor Kovalenko. The 21-year-old spent last season on loan at Zorya Luhansk, and is considered the latest highly talented player from the Shakhtar academy, who could feature for Shakhtar’s first team on a regular basis. The rotated side demonstrated that Shakhtar have an extremely deep squad, which could provide Fonseca with some selection headaches in the near future.
